this is just not an election-deciding issue! this is a personal political commitment from the UK's political and media class! to use one of their little pet phrases, the legal assault on trans people is a "luxury belief" spearheaded by people who don't have to worry about their access to healthcare or their ability to pay the rent! keir starmer is actively, affirmatively embracing this ideology!

@rhyperographer Yeah those are indeed the candidates. Count Binface stands in opposition in whichever constituency is the incumbent Prime Minister's. The guy next to him is the Monster Raving Loony Party, who do something similar but don't limit themselves to the PM.

I would really recommend that ppl read "The Mismeasure of Man" for a history of how shaky pseudoscience was often used to confirm social prejudices.

The 25 thing will be remembered alongside the "ape-like features of non-europeans", "criminal stigmata", the "missing ounces of the female brain" and the "average american's mental age of 12" (that time IQ tests were misrepresented as a measure of general intelligence to prove it was impossible to educate the working class.. a patently silly claim now that many countries have near-universal literacy.)

Guys, I edit professionally. This list is legit. Incorporating these suggestions before you hire an editor will save you A LOT of money. Even if you did these and nothing else, you’d see significant overall improvement in your work.

That said, you don’t have to overthink these things when you’re writing a first draft. If you write, “she said angrily” in a first draft, you can always revisit the phrasing in a second draft. I mention this because overthinking style can lead to a loss of momentum, and losing momentum is why so many people never finish a draft. Give yourself permission to write fast, write messy or ugly, and edit your draft into beauty later.
